BOOK AN ONLINE LESSON

I have been teaching privately since 2004 and as a degree music lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) campuses in both Guildford and London since 2016, teaching hundreds of students both the technical and compositional side of playing the 4, 5 and 6-string electric bass guitar, as well as music theory and how to read and write music.

As a late starter that picked up the bass at 15 and then went on to study music at the ACM from 2005-2007, I can relate to a learning student because I remember the process myself. I teach from beginner to advanced electric bass guitar techniques including (and not limited to) neck knowledge, 2, 3, 4 and 5-finger plucking techniques, playing with a pick/plectrum, tapping, harmonics, sweeping, slapping/thumping, the use of extended range 5 and 6-string basses, fretless bass, alternate tunings, improvisation and much more.

I have a significant back catalogue, with transcription books available in my webstore, and for anyone learning my bass parts I can demonstrate how I played different sections when I recorded them and what my compositional process was for those parts. As far as I know, mine are the only Metal-genre transcription books available with a dedicated notation-only section to practise reading music in bass clef.

I also teach general music to students including theory, reading and writing of musical notation (by hand or using software including Sibelius, MuseScore and Guitar Pro), ear training, transcribing, composition, chords, scales, harmonisation and many other interesting topics. I prefer to teach students from a musical perspective with exercises based in music harmony as through knowing the notes being played, and therefore their relationship to the key, one can know what the notes will sound like before playing them which gives a vastly superior knowledge of the neck that learning scales through visual diagrams, or songs through tablature, cannot compete with.

Trust me, I've been there!

If you have any questions then please feel free to send me a message, otherwise I look forward to meeting you online!

I teach online remotely from my home studio in the UK and have taught musicians from most continents online so I am quite used to navigating time-zone differences. You can book either individual lessons below or groups (packs) of lessons:

  • If booking a lesson pack then the first lesson time needs to be booked and further bookings can be made through the Website's Members area. Lesson packs are valid for 12 months.
